The Everyday Vegan: Recipes and Lessons for Living the Vegan Life
I began writing The Everyday Vegan after my father-in-law had
a heart attack and his cardiologist encouraged him to adopt a vegetarian
diet. Since I had been a vegetarian for about four years and had experimented
with vegetarian and vegan recipes, my in-laws asked me for practical ideas
and recipe they could use. They needed to know the basics what
new foods to buy, where to buy them, how to prepare them, and recipes
that were delicious and easy enough to ensure that they wouldnt
miss meat. After compiling this information for them, I realized it was
a valuable resource for others. This was the beginning of The Everyday
Vegan.
The Everyday Vegan features:
- Delicious, easy recipes using common ingredients. Classic recipes
include Pureed Curried Squash and Yam Soup, Divine Tofu Spread or Dip,
Amazing Creamy Caesar Dressing, Ginger Hoisin Rice Noodles, Sweet and
Sour "Neat" Balls, Maple Banana Loaf, Coconut Raspberry Squares,
and Triple Layer Chocolate "Cream" Cake.
- Nutritional analysis for each recipe.
- Cooking tips and substitution ideas within recipes.
- An "Everyday Cooking Tips and How-Tos" chapter for
practical advice on preparing and using ingredients you may not be familiar
with.
- A "Shopping For Everyday Ingredients" chapter for information
on where and how to buy some of the foods that may be new to you.
- "Stories of Everyday Vegans" to show you that anyone can
eat vegan foods, any or everyday!
- Minimal use of refined flours and sugars in recipes, and no hydrogenated
oils such as margarine.
Now in its second printing, The Everyday Vegan is available at
bookstores everywhere. Buy
the book online or contact
my publisher to have your favorite bookstore carry it.
